Let us look at my favorite “The Pearl of Africa”

With its Ten National Game Parks and Game Reserves, Uganda is an emerging tourism destination. Abundant in wildlife and breathtaking landscapes, unique traditional cultures, fresh and natural water body lakes the country is teeming with untapped tourism attractions.

Kidepo Valley National Park
(3rd best national park in Africa by CNN)

Kidepo National Park is nestled among the rugged hills and valleys of northern Uganda. It’s a place so hidden away; its beauty has mostly gone unnoticed. The Park boasts of big game and hosts over 86 mammal species and around 475 bird species. Kidepo ranks among Africa’s finest wildernesses.

The voracious Kidepo lions prey on roving herds of more than 4,000 buffalo (the total population in the park is said to be about 13,000) and you will often see herds of elephants moving majestically along the valleys. A must not miss on your African Safaris.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site and one of Africa’s most ancient habitats, even surviving the last Ice Age as most of the continent’s other forests disappeared. The Park Spread over a series of steep ridges and valleys covered by mist and Africa’s oldest rainforests, which dates back over 25,000 years and contains almost 400 species of plants. More famously, this “impenetrable forest” also protects an estimated 400 mountain gorillas – roughly half of the world’s population.

It is also shelter to about 120 mammals, including several primate species such as baboons and chimpanzees, as well as elephants and antelopes. There are around 350 species of birds and 220 butterfly species hosted in this forest.

This is one of the best places in the world to see mountain gorillas up close. Don’t miss it on your safari.




Queen Elizabeth National Park
“A Medley of Wonders”

Named after Queen Elizabeth II during her visit in 1954 Queen Elizabeth National Park is understandably Uganda’s most popular tourist destination. The park’s diverse ecosystems, which include sprawling savanna, shady, humid forests, sparkling lakes and fertile wetlands, make it the ideal habitat for classic big game, 10 primate species including chimpanzees and over 600 species of birds.

Set against the backdrop of the jagged Rwenzori Mountains, the park’s magnificent vistas include dozens of enormous craters carved dramatically into rolling green hills, panoramic views of the Kazinga Channel with its banks lined with hippos, buffalo and elephants, and the endless Ishasha plains boosting of the famous tree climbing Lions.

With an astonishing 5,000 hippos, 2,500 elephants and over 10,000 buffalo thriving in its grasslands and shorelines, Queen Elizabeth guarantees sightings of some of Africa’s most iconic species. Other common herbivores include warthogs, waterbuck, Uganda kob and topi, as well as the sitatunga antelope, Vervet and black and white colobus monkeys and the baboons.

Big Cats
Queen’s most elusive inhabitants are its felines: lion, leopard, civet, genal and serval cats.

Rwenzori Mountains National Park
“Mountains of the Moon”

The Unesco World Heritage and Ramsar site, The Highest point is 5,109m above sea level on Mt Stanley’s Margherita Peak.  The oldest recorded person to reach Margherita Peak was Ms Beryl Park aged 78 in 2010.

The equatorial snow peaks include the third highest point in Africa, while the lower slopes are blanketed in moorland, bamboo and rich, moist montane forest. Huge tree-heathers and colorful mosses are draped across the mountainside with giant lobelias and “everlasting flowers”, creating an enchanting, fairytale scene.

The national park hosts 70 mammals, 217 bird species, unusual reptiles such as the three-horned chameleon and some of the world’s rarest vegetation.

The Rwenzoris are a world-class hiking and mountaineering destination. A 9 – 12 days trek will get skilled climbers to the summit of Margherita.
