I had a great time visiting the Park Shoebill on Bussi Island on Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa.
I have been to the Park Shoebil twice with my family and on both occasions, we stayed overnight.
We were picked from the beach and taken on a motorized boat and within no time we were at Park Shoebill. We did not get to realize the 40 minutes of the cruise because of the beautiful experience on the lake as waves danced and we took selfies as the experienced crew navigated.
At Park Shoebill we were received by a well-organised group of youthful, enthusiastic and courteous team that helped us out of the boat and ushered us to a well laid table with fresh juice where we were allowed to fill and refill. Very delicious and refreshing.
The Park i spacious and children started running all over really feeling at home with the help of guides positioned at different points carrying walkie-talkies and with lots of activities to try out.
We then checked into rooms that are attractively done with local materials and with finesse. Then we had our dinner with food and vegetables and meat all from the farm that is part of the Park Shoebill. We ate while music was playing and you could ask for any choice and you would get it.
After dinner, we had a karaoke while seated around a fireplace lit by old and well-dried firewood. Drinks were there for us to serve ourselves and with lots of snacks.
We slept by past midnight in rooms which look like traditional hut outside but inside are like any executive room in a 5-star hotel, with hot water baths and mosquito nets, immaculately white bedsheets and a reading table.
Waking up to a sumptuous breakfast with a variety of drinks and eats from cassava, sweet potatoes and beans to chips, omelette and sausage to an assortment of fruits and of course coffee and tea. We were free to have as many helpings as we could.
After breakfast we had a wide range of activities to engage in: children chose to go for motor-rides, some adults preferred to go for the Kipling challenge in three phases, the third is where I earned my name being written on the Hall of Fame.
Others took a tour of the farm while others walked to the ancient rocks with impressive ancient permanent writings.
In the afternoon after lunch we all had a tour by cruise boat to view an extraordinary array of birds chief of which is the Shoebill.
We returned to freshen up and get treated to another wow dinner and before returning to bed had another remarkable karaoke around the fireplace.
Th following day, we ha planned to leave in the morning but ended up leaving in the afternoon to first have another taste and flavor of the magnificent Park Shoebill under the able stewardship of Joe and his professional team.
Park Shoebill is a serene environment and an experience one should never miss. I plan to go back again and again.
